Just had a few days on the water to check out the local northern areas.
Also wanted the time to get more out of the minn kota using some of its' clever functions other than spot lock and self drive.
Slow trolling livebaits using the autopilot/cruise control speed gizmo is brilliant. Saves hours on the motor and the livies prefer the slower speeds. Can also use it to set up drifts at specific headings and speeds without the drift chute. I like it
Anyway, the recent fishing reports are correct and it's good news. After weeks of watching things develop out from Kawau the snapper have moved back in.
I only fished deep on day 1 as it's crazy fishing. The Tiri Kawau line in 30m is very fishy. Tiri 1/3 of the line had the work-ups on Monday. I had a quick drop then went exploring in 50m further north and found fishing at least as good as anything over the other side. No birds or dolphins - just good sign. Kaburas and jigs working equally well. You can't get them to the bottom without something intercepting them - good sized fish too. Exciting times ahead. Weather forecast looks great.
