Top of Coro was amazing but I wanted to get back over to Great Barrier last couple of charters. Area we're fishing is around 5 kms'ish west & SW of the pidgeons.
You certainly don't need to go as far as Great Barrier to find them but when the weather is good it's hard to resist......masses of dolphins out there. Sporadic work ups - we've even had whales circling the boat keeping an eye on us from just under the water. Amazing experience. Switch off the finder and just take it all in.
Pink lures working best the last couple of weeks. Orange scoring the bigger fish. Coincidence? Slow pitch jigs also proving at least as deadly as the kaburas. Red/green Kaburas also working well.
It's been non stop from the minute we get there with species firsts and PB's for anglers. Plenty of Kingfish around - most in the 80-90cm bracket. Here are some pics.
BBQ in Whangaparapara Harbour
This one weighed a shade over 18lbs. A PB for George that he wanted to release
. It fought all the way up and swam off strongly after being given a few seconds to get it's bearings. Happy days.
