Interested to know what hooks everyone is using in there marlin lures.

Not quite sold on the light gauge hype, and am looking to re rig my lures for this season.

Have heard good things about VMC Dynacut. Any other recommendations?

As someone pointed out to me, what ever hook it is,

Some of mine are Bonze and Pakula .The light gauge great on the stripys ,don't right them off .There are some on here that berate them and a certain shop that sells them ,then there are guys that use them with the proof in the pudding .
Find that wash n dry when back on land at the end of the day makes all your hooks last longer .Thought someone would of come up with a nano spray to protect hooks that can stick like ****  to a blanket after a good spray .Size and 1 or 2 hooks another discussion in its self .Yip crossed my mind the old lure bag and to get them out and have a look .Dont no the DMC , can't help there . cheers

Pakula - both light and heavy.
Matto and sharpness - quote for truth. Amazing how dull hooks get with trolling and sitting around

VMC for me. I do tweak them too though. I have proved my drag settings are a tad hard for the light gaugeCry and in reality I can't be arsed with all the extra effort to maintain/replace them every day.

I use the cheapest stainless heavy gauge hooks in the shop. Sharpen then down so the barb is only about 1mm. Never had a hook break and went 4-6 last season.

I like the Pakula light gauge. On braid, one look they are hooked!
Had a big mako ona light gauge and it jumped as I was tracing and hook bent and mako was released - perfect scenario. Would never had put that much pressure on a marlin unless I wanted a release.

I had a kingie on a livey dropped in 120m and it totally ruined the point of a Pakula Dojo light gauge, maybe I should have used a different hook in this scenario...Ouch

Just takes a bit more rigging than stainless hooks.

Yeah im gunna have to give a vote for the bonze light gauge here!

Everyone keeps talking about the extra maintenance factor of using light gauge hooks as you will need to re rig lures....

For most good game fisherman ive meet they spend more time rigging, maintaining and sharpening large steel/stainless hooks than I do with light gauge.

It doesnt matter what fishing style you do at the end of the day all styles need maintenance and any hook you put in the water needs to be scary sharp and for those that cant sharpen a heavy hook the light gauge come scary sharp and are perfect for our striped marlin and have nailed a stack of blue and black marlin!

Light gauge has been the same story as when softbaiting came out.
People broke the light gear until they found out how to use it and now most guys have a softbait set
