I see Totally Fly are closing down. Very sad to see. I wonder how this reflects on the future of fly fishing retail in New Zealand?

I can't say I've ever been into Totally Fly, but I have bought stuff on mail order. Sad fact of life though is that I could have bought from one of the big overseas retailers just as easily.

No chance of going there now, but I should probably make the effort for the two weeks of red hot specials in the closing down sale...

Edit: well there you go, the lease expired and too costly to move into new premises.

Yeah, I think you'd have to find a very cheap lease in exactly the right location for a small dedicated fly shop to work anywhere in New Zealand... or the world for that matter.

I think costs in that part of town are going up a lot ; WS Laurie was just over the road before they moved out to Grey Lynn and went under . Two good shops out of business this year which is a real shame . Hope all concerned will be okay .

Perhaps Auckland may end up with one decent fly shop somewhere. God knows it could do with one.

I haven't been in there for a while, but if you haven't been in to Rod & Reel in Newmarket, have a look - I thought it had a great fly tying range last time I went in, and they seemed to have a good stock of fly gear. More or less a specialist fly fishing shop from what i could see - though I think they've got into more of the salt water lure scene in the past couple of years. Yoshi worked there before Totally Fly.
