Stunning day, good fishing mate.

What is your favourite bait for the carrots? It's interesting that you go well and pick up plenty of good fish with a simple strayline ball sinker rig, rather than getting too complicated with various ledgers, flashers etc etc.

Thanks TTK yes was a mint day alright - we seem to catch them with all sorts - cube of Pillie - cube of squid and even a cube of fresh Kahawai - once your on the patch it doesn't seem to matter to much. I do use more the pillies but another mate he uses a dropper rig just in behind the burley pot and puts on a Gulp Crazy legs with a re-curve hook and pulls them in constantly when where fishing. He doesn't so call fish with it he just sets it in the corner of the boat then throws out his strayline gear and only grabs it once it is buckled over it seems to be very productive....

I'm not to sure how well of sight they have sometimes in these spots as the water can be quite murky and although they are a predatory fish and feed on movement etc I would think more the smell gets them to the hook then maybe then sight once they are a few cm's away from it???

Very interesting, Jase. Thanks for the sharing the info.
My PB carrot was on a half pillie surf casting off rocks on Wellington's south coast, so they do take them. It was in very clean water, unlike the Kaipara, Manukau etc.
I'm keen to give it a go out on the Manukau soon.
