My good mate Troy & i hatched a plan mid last week to go and target our first Broadbill.
With lots of reading on these forums and watching videos we came up with our own rig ideas and tackle gear and set-up and headed off down south to Greymouth.
With a good weather window we got out over the bar and set off in search of the 'gladiator' of the sea.
We tried a couple of daytime deep drops and stuffed them up to some extent, then took a break and caught some good bluenose with the biggest going 21 kg.
Then we decided to have one last daytime drop while we get out night time gear ready, and just before dark we got a bite, troy jumped on the reel and after 20kg of drag for a hour & half we had sight of the mighty sword in the dark by then.
Then we did a laurel and hardy silent movie clip were it took us two a full hour to get it on board. hahaa.
It came up snotty that night and was a long slow sleepless night back to front of the bar.
Have to say thanks to all the posts on here that we read and gave us ideas to give it a go.
Was so rapt with our efforts and success on the first time trying, and a massive thanks to my mate Troy Dando for an Ultimate Adventure out wide.
Funniest thing is we tied a glorified kingfish setup onto Troys 50W of 120lb braid with a PR knot to 300lb leader, worked so well even after going through the roller on leader approx dozen times before we finally secured the fish.
