I have pretty much a zero interest in politics but Phil Goff has always appealed to me as a sincere politician in a world of crazies. I wish him well and hope he does right by the citizens of Auckland.

If you don't agree feel free to say so but think of this... is it possible to be as far removed as that idiot Donald Trump? I think not.

Proof positive that we're luckier than Americans. Big smile

He has been an MP since 1981 and done nothing worth mentioning. Don't expect much to change.

I have nothing against PG personally, but I am sick of professional politicians because what that really means is they are professionals at maximising their image without doing anything to rock the boat. We have so many issues in our unelected council management that we really needed a **** stirring trouble maker mayor to come in and shake the whole rotten mess up until the needs of the rate payers are ranked above the personal/political agendas of the council management. Unfortunately, PG is unlikely to be that mayor and I don't know how much more time we have under the current administration until Auckland is well and truly stuffed.

First statement was a pointer to more of the same rubbish for me. He is going to fix the "image" problem of the council by appointing highly paid execs (ex Air NZ) to work with current council staff. Really?

The image problem IS the current council staff. They caused it and have zero interest in fixing it if it moves power from the bureaucrats to the elected representative.

There isn't an image problem, there is a council performance problem.

It is just a retirement jaunt for Goff, so he can spend more time on his "farm" !

I don't hold out a lot of hope for meaningful change.

I did vote, but not for "Phil In"

Because of the way the supercity was set up, with much of what we think of as being council functions actually provided by the various "CCO,s" which the council don't actually have any direct control over I don't think any mayor can have that much influence. Like most large governmental organisations, Auckland council has become top heavy with overpaid beaurocrats producing little and spending their working life justifying their existence and covering their arses.
