Tried to go to the mokes on Wednesday and on our way there we passed hundreds of gannets booming right against the rocks and with our casting gear already set up thought we would have a cast.
This ended in over 30 kings caught in about 2 hours all on topwater lures and fishing right up into the beach and rocks.
There was a pack of kings just cruzing up and down the coast smashing bait in the shallows and we just followed them around.
We didn't get too many photos as it was hard not to cast when there is a pack of hoodlums cruising around at your feet and most of the time we were all hooked up!

CB One Zorro 220 doing the damage on this nice fish for marc

They weren't huge fish but all out of the same mould. Very solid fish and in meters of water they needed a bit of stopping

heavy gear trying to keep there heads out of the kelp

Matching the hatch with a Carpenter Gamma 120 Mackerel

Steve hooked up right in the bay and we could see the fish the whole fight

Steve with the biggest fish from the session

It eventually ended so with us all been sore thought maybe we should go try some shallow pins for hopefully a puka as they should be right in close now.
On our way out our livebait tank had emptied and now we had a whole tank of deadies so marc tied on a 500g jig while i just dropped dead jacks
Well, Marc Taylor out fished the bait with his Jig! 500g JM Dimond eye Ouch
Then Steve asks how deep are we? 90m?
Next minute he drops a 160g bottom ship and he hooks up!
25lb fluro leader = 12kg hapuka!!! awesome effort on light gear

Marc's first drop resulted in a 22kg hapuka on the jig which in the shallow water fought all the way to the surface and had us guessing what it was
Only pups for me on the baits while i watched marc get railed on the jig

steve hooked up on slow jigging gear

Saltiga 10H
Yeehaa Custom slow jig rod
Pe 2 Varivas Light Jigging
Bottom Ship 160g

12kg of yum

Just hooked

On our 3rd and final drift Marc hooks a awesome 26kg puka on the jig and ended an awesome session and a mint day

this had to be one of the best days fishing ive had for a while when everything falls into place!
Bring on spring at more top water kings!!!

Hell Yeah! That's some awesome fishing right there!, bummer you didn't have Troy along to pull out another Hog on topwater!

We had a similar experience a couple of weeks ago with the Kingies pushing pilchards hard up onto the rocks in a bay out the back of Kawau. They  were going nuts for our stickbaits! Good work Luke
