After a complete failed effort at the recent grunter hunter( not even catching a single gurnard) today was the day to try again and rebuild the confidence.

Kids rugby in the morning so the plan was to shoot out for an afternoon fish.

Arrived at the ramp Early afternoon and supprised to see only two Boats out from Tetoro.

Decided to try a new a spot today after the failed attempt 2 weeks ago and anchored up in two metres of water.

The water was so clear I could literally see the baits and glow beads on the bottom which is very unusual.

Not long after baits went in the first rod buckled over and firsts thought was its a kahawai the way it was behaving however up pops a nice gurnard of 48cm, great start!!

It wasn't going off as the tide was running out but the odd fish kept coming onboard. After the lull of low tide and the incoming tide started the fishing started to fire and proceeded to catch a good haul of 15 nice gurnard and let a few smaller ones go . only 3 kahawai too which were present In plague proportions two weeks ago.

Very interesting the way some of these gurnard behaved in the shallows, fighting like kahawai and some even coming to the surface.

A few from today's catch.

Nice work Chris. I have had gurnard break the surface in shallow water. Sometimes they swim around in a wide arc and their dorsal fins break the surface. True!

Got your mojo back Chris. I had one leap clear of the water after taking off sideways during the grunter hunter, 1.5m of water. Does it usually get better from now on?
