After studying the large smelt of this lake I realized that they have a little olive/tan component unlike the smaller smelt of Taupo which are more transparent like Whitebait.

They look the business! 
For some reason known only to the trout  I think that yellowy tinge can make a difference too.
Cant wait to get out for another crack.

Awesome looking flies mate, if they work, let us know. I haven't tried flies on Rotoiti, only trawling lures, 'cos I don't get to fish there very often. I wouldn't mind the recipe, so I can tie some!!!

SK   I use BM D10 hooks, chartreuse yarn and white/olive coloured Synthetic Living Fibre Hanks for the wing.   Obtainable from FishUSA.    Painted eyes instead of stick-on eyes.    Finish with Loon UV epoxy.    Include various flash materials along the wing to imitate the silver band along the flanks.
