Hi all, got a mate Steve down South Island on a three week hunting adventure at the mo. He's been in regular contact shot a few Deer, Thar, Chamoi, Wallabys. Four days ago one of his mates down there who knows the Twizel Canals well took Steve fishing for a hopeful big Trout. When i got his call the other night and pic, Thought That deserves a post!LOL A brief rundown of the day- Plenty of the big ones close to the Salmon Farms were seen all afternoon but they were not interested in anything until change of light. They hooked a few smaller ones up to 20 lbs they released before Steve hooked the Biggy! They were using imitation Shrimp baits. Put up a few huge runs before it lay over! Steve described it as winding in a fat little Pig!LOL He couldn't believe the size of it when on dry land. Weighed in at 17.4 kg's-38 lbs, 26 inches round girth, And measured 96 cm long. Bryce- SSManakau's beauts he reported on from Twizel a few months ago and entered in Measuring Comp are safe though as Steves not in it. As for the fish getting smoked and couriered back to where they staying. Pic of Steve with trout. Cheers.

My wife and I have caught a couple of big Twizel trout. One was a old Jack Brownie, and I wish I'd released it. The other was silvery in color, though also a Brown and was almost as nice as salmon.

Trout there grow faster than normal, and there is now a large amount of natural food in the canals. It's not all about the scraps from the farms.

Hi OWT, just talked to Steve. Trout was a rainbow. Said it had beaut fillet colour like a Salmon. Not back from smoking yet. But predicting it to taste great!! Also he mentioned his mate got a bag of Salmon pellets from near bye farm and during the day the big ones would come to life and pig out on them when chucked in but wouldn't touch anything on a line till dusk!
