This is the Yellowfin I tagged around 40kg, even burnt my hand on leader, after tag went in it took off, me not prepared for that , no gloves on and mono slipping around hand burns, ouch! Have not had that since my deckhand days, Note to self, Always put gloves on, anyway lots of jelly bean Yellowfin around Cape Karikari in 100mtrs off Matai Bay up to North Cape in 120mtrs, beaut 22deg water, some Stripies there too, but I did not see any for 2 days. Shaping up to be a cracker season boys so get out there! Yellowfin were spewing out arrow squid around 8" long.
 Cheers swordfishsteve

Not at all surprised by that comment, look at most of the tuna(albies yft, whatever)you see in pictures.
skin dry from being on the deck in the sun,not bled. sashimi? lol.
even smoking it won't make it "good".
Some of the best eating fish in the sea, only good for burley.
Even the lowly skippy is fine fare if treated properly.
Tuna should be gaffed only in the head and immediately on being brought on board iki'ed,
bled by cuts under pec fins, have heavy mono or wire run down the backbone to destroy nerves
gilled, gutted and iced.
Then your fish will be as good eating as it could be,the difference is immediately obvious
Blackbill put a good diagram showing how to bleed and iki them on here a year or so back
maybe he could put it up again

Was out off Parengarenga on the 11th. Managed a couple of YFT around 30kg and a few big fat alberts. Most of the action seemed to be around 130-140m.

Was pretty exciting at one point with the boys watching the lures seeing a huge YFT (est 70-80kg) smashing one of the lures with full acrobatics. Unfortunately he got the better of us but wow, what a rush having him hooked up for a while.

Saw some stripies but unfortunately didnt manage to nab one that day!

Thanks Fish Addict,
That was a great read, and gives a clear understanding to handling ones fish to a high standard when it is kept as food.
Many of the practices there can be applied to all our fish types kept.

Well I'm happy to report that there is probably no parking at the Kings, heard suggestions of traffic lights required.
From north cape to Karikari there were some tuna caught.
Actually **** loads. And Marlin. And short bill.

There was one or two individuals we know that caught some tuna and one is a meritorious catch. But he will post that himself.

If you weren't here, well you missed out.
