Hi all. What are your opinions on the best lure for catching kahawai in the wellington harbour. I've heard that stingsilda's, grim reapers, and hex wobbles are all good but I want to know what everyone thinks.

anything smallish an chrome is good, they can be a bit fickle when feeding on whitebait

While I haven't fished Wellington harbour I have done loads of lure fishing for kahawai.  What Red Rooster says is true, they can be fussy when feeding on whitebait. In that situation a small ball sinker sliding down onto a saltwater fly works really well.

"stingsilver lures"
if you can find any of these still around in the shops 20 to 60gm in silver you cant miss early morning or late evening when the white bait are around,

these lure are not chrome plated they are silver plated hence the difference to all the other lures out there,

for some reason they are fantastic at the above times, "or low light" just be careful because if the lure is outside of the kahawai's mouth another will surely try to take it off your catch and break your line if not thick enough.

Thanks for everything you did for us Eric. may you rest in peace, You were one of the real legends of NZ recreational fishing
