Hi team,

As per the pervious post we recent acquired an awesome Carribean 35. We took it for out first trip on Thursday and love it.

It quickly became obvious we have issues with the sounder as we were loosing our picture at anything about 14 knots. As the boat is coming out next week to get antifouled I was wondering if the transducer can be tested whilst the boat is out of the water because if it is stuffed it would be a good time to replace it and save another haul out fee.

I belive it is a 1kw thur hull Airmar transducer and if so who would you recommend. The boat is sitting at Gulf Harbour.

Cheers

Jamie

Does it read ok at slow speeds? Sounds to me like you are getting air over the face at higher speeds. Can it be lowered? Find out which side the transducer is on and travel at the higher speed and turn sharply towards that side. If the pictures clears you have a air going over the face of the transducer. Which means it needs to be lowered or a decent fairing block put on. That should be able to test it in the water to see if there is a problem with the internals.

As the boat is coming out next week to get antifouled
If in need of a clean, it is very likely that could be your problem right there.

The boat was out of the water last month when surveyed and the bottom water blasted (so cleaned) I will check again tomorrow
