Hi all, I'm in the market for a new spinning rod, but I haven't bought a rod in ages and not sure what's available these days.

Looking at 10+ foot, 15kg, to pair with my baitrunner.

Usage would be lobbing big baits off the rocks for snapper.

Any recommendations for off the rack buying?

I'm open to having a rod built too if there is a good blank to be had.

Cheers
Boz

Not sure about off the shelf, but I remember Tom (Tomatron) building a 10 footer on a kilwell blank a while back. It was an absolute stump puller though.

Sounds like a weapon!

Anyone else with experience having a LBG spin rod built?

Or opinions on off the rack options?

Pico's Rocky would do the job - bit shorter though.

I remember someone on here getting a rod built up on 10ft kilwell rocky blank. Not sure if it was a one off or if they make that blank regularly. I think it was built by reelrods so probably not cheap

I haven't progressed much further yet Rockz.

I'm not worried about spending a bit of dosh to get something that I like and am going to keep for ages, so maybe I'll give Reel Rods a buzz and see what they can do.

The rocky blank sounds interesting too.

Any other recommendations for rod builders?

See if you can get your hands on a kilwell FSU5120, old school and unbreakable, if that's your thing

Some interesting options coming through there lads!

That Offshore looks like it could be good, love to have a tug on one of those to see how it bends.

Makka any more info on the FSU5120?

Whats the specs on your Rocky Jade?

Tomatron did a really nice livebaiting rod for me (I've mentioned this in several other threads so sorry if I keep banging on about it) and reguided/rebuilt a couple of others. Really stoked with the work he's done. He also did a nice straylining rod for cal25 on a kilwell blank.

Cal also had a pretty blinging livebaiting rod built by a guy on here, think he's called GMV custom rods. He hasn't caught anything on it yet though so no performance review ha ha

There's also this guy, http://www.vixencustomrods.com/ but don't really know anything about it apart from some pics on FB.

In terms of blanks I think scuzzymoto on here was bringing in some United composites blanks, maybe some calstar as well. Could be worth a pm.

Little bit shorter than what you're after but the Okuma X Factor 8'6" 10-15kg Spin Rod is a cheap option. I find anything much longer a bit of a struggle on the decent snaps. Not made anymore but fullon still have some and down to $85!
