Hey guys just wondering where abouts in the world are the hot spots for Marlin during winter/spring months here. My old man has been quite crook and catching a marlin is on his bucket list and willing to go anywhere to get one. He was too crook to get on board when we were nailing them out of Raglan which was a real pitty since we had a cracker season. When are the last few traditionaly caught up north? When does Aussie or the islands fire? Or better of looking at the northern hemisphere during those months?

From the Gold Coast:

Great 5 days record fishing for blues aboard French Look. Raised 20 blues switched 19 and got the one on 8kg pending Australian record. Out of the 19 switched 10 was on 4kg, 6 on 8kg and 3 on 6kg. Not easy fishing but had an awesome time!

— with Garry Holt and 2 others.

and the Boat Jugs got 10 blues in one day a few weeks ago off the Gold Coast.

It's close to NZ and has been red hot since before Christmas.

All year Don, Once this batch of fish which are 130 to 300kgs move on the bigger ones come on average 200 kgs up.

The downfall is the weather so buy air tickets you can change. Of course winter days are much shorter than summer days so you only have one or two tide / bite times whereas in summer / spring, autumn you get three.

Grounds are 25 miles out of Southport so you loose 2 hours a day running out and back.

Or book a trip to Vava'u in Tonga and get on to Target One.  And only go outside Harbour mouth - about 7ks (from where you can stay at Tongan Beach Resort) from memory,  and catch blue marlin of all sizes from about August onwards through to about November
