A quick update from The Mercs. Earlier in the week I caught up with the Fishing News team  for a spot of fishing and it was a pretty damn good afternoon on the water.

We launched the Fishing News CC Stabi at Kuaotunu and headed out around Karapuke for a few hours. As you can see from the pix it was mint conditions and we caught a few nice ones on softies drifting around a number of different areas of foul in the area from Stanley across to Karapuke and over to Gt Merc.

Lot of little pickers were nailing the Gulps and I soon changed to a Z-Man paddletail in new penny colours. Good move that as it resulted in a 70cm and pretty soon after a 74cm snap which was my best for quite a few months. The fishing is really picking up in places like the Coromandel – pity the weather has been so gnarly this weekend.

Nice to catch-up with Grant, Pete and Brett. Awesome company, lots of laughs and banter along with some great fishing with good fullas. Back into Whiti and we enjoyed some fresh snapper cooked tempura style with chips and beers. Hard to beat after a few hours of serious winding!

Thanks for the report Grunta, looks like the snaps are moving into their winter habitat.
Love fishing, love my job. It's a bloody shame that they clash.

Solid snapper there Grunta! What a great time of year, snappers, kings and crays in the shallows at the moment, don't need to go far.

Great fishing there Grunta, some nice fish there. Was out there yesterday and a lot of nice large fish in the shallows although not quite as big as yours. Great time of the year out there.
