Ahoy mates,

Need informed advise as I'm going to be "marrying" up a 4.2 hull weighing a dry weight of around 230kg and a tiller operated outboard motor ......2 stroke or 4 stroke manual start.
I recognise the value of dealing with a" local" marine mechanic but I'm needing some leads etc....
Tiller operated unit that ideally is as reliable as can be.

Thnks.

PS. with the boat show around just around the corner are there any companies that offer - show promotions?-

Reliability get a 4S EFI batteryless model - not sure of best model in that hp range - where will boat be based? - someone here might be able to recommend best dealer & suitable motor model & brand supported in that area?  Cheers
Good fishing trip nothing breaks, great trip catch fish.

Batteryless efi is 30hp max, unless you are talking about an Etec.

If you really want manual start i.e. no battery in the 40hp+ range then it's ETEC, or a carbed two stroke or four stroke.

Congratulations on forthcoming move Cpt.Pugwash.  Maybe Corokid and others can  comment based on local knowledge?  I've not had a 50hp eTec, is there a dealer in Whitianga?
I'd go 50hp unless you are on your own all the time?  But with a few passengers on board extra hp is good. I have a Mercury 50hp 2S current model on my 4.2m - it has done 330hrs and been good but a 4S will be more economical using about half the fuel - so consider how much use you are planning on.
I hear good things about Tohatsu motors - my 30hp Merc 2S is made by them, beautifully made in Japan with high quality stainless and good paint, has been good for 2 years now.
Good fishing trip nothing breaks, great trip catch fish.
