With a bit of local knowledge and most places in NZ have a bounty of kai moana. We are lucky in deed.

Had some great fishing around the mercs in last few days Fishing been great since start of February. Today was a ripper, started slow and steady but later in the morning picked up. Drifted through a herd of big snapper and got some goodies to 75cm. Let the biggies go and came home with a nice bin of good snapper.
Was using the 7" Zmans today and they seemed to be working a lot better than anything smaller.
Great time of the year up here.......think I might go out tomorrow as well.

quick mish Sun morn produced a good feed. Softbaits picking up snapper & JD. Cod favouring the Kabura.  High tide, with a full moon looking on from the west......not what I'd normally fish during.....I wrapped it up before bite time and headed home.

another good softbait mish on Sunday with a couple of mates landed 16 snaps in the bin. No photos this time, similar sizes to previous catches. However, of note was the prevalence of squid at several locations. I landed 1 which got hooked on a softbait, but my softbait was clearly being hit by them a lot thru-out the day.
Going to get some squid jigs and give it a crack, see if I can't get some decent No's

Thinking of getting out next week for a shallow water king mission. Anyone know if there are still heaps of Mackies in the bay at the moment?

Just been back in Whiti for a few days, first time for four months. Been windy shirty weather but been ducking out early in the dark for a couple of hours before the wind gets up to bad. Fishing generally good and been getting my limit in an hour or so. Haven't gone past Black rocks and catching most of the snapper between 10 and 20 meters, all on softies. Nice to be back.

A quick mission on Friday afternoon saw these guys all very eager to get in the bin. 20m in the puddle. Softbaits and Kaburas.
the carrot in the middle was pretty decent (small snaps were 35cm)
