Been a bit quiet on here lately. There's still a few fish around. Three stripies caught today according to radio chat. Managed to drop one on a horse Skippy after coming up tight and saw a few others but couldn't tempt them away from the mackerel schools.
I love catching fish. But fishing isn't always about catching.

Thats a great fish and a good effort for all on board. Strange you should mention the length of the sword.
The one I caught was a similar length and I thought it had been broken off also. I had the head mounted and made inquires as to what the length should of been been with a fish of that weight. The guy that did the mount added on another 600 cm. I then had a com guy with a lot of experince in lining for swords call in and have a look at it. First thing he said when he saw it said it was a very young fish as to the length of its sword. I showed him how much had been added on and he then said it was a very old fish. According to him they just wear there swords out as they get older due to slashing other fish and also hitting the odd rock or two 600 t0 800 mts down.

Interesting guy with a lot of info.

Congrats again Bluewater5

Shyte....  I really feel for you guys.. 5.5 hours ... and for a fricken bird to bust you off!!   thats heart breaking...    My son got a stripy in 30 mins in rough weather earlier this year..  this sword pushed him to the limit for 1.5 hours in glassy calm..   I would love to get any photos you have...  they would be priceless for me..  cheers J

Sword  fishing looked pretty good in weekend. I saw couple fish (broadies) weighed, but marlin fishing was equally  good too.
We hooked up 3 times  (Sat and Sun) but dropped em al -and one on Sun was a really nice big fish -hit lures twice -and still didn't hook up -that's fishin but others had more luck.
They are still there!  Actually time for strikes best its been all season I'd say... fair bit goin on... dolphins sunfish and saury by all accounts
