Fishing Holidays - Solomon Islands

The Solomon Islands is comprised of more than 990 islands stretching across 1500 km between 5° and 12° south of the Equator and north east of Australia. Virtually untouched by commercial development, the island group remains a natural paradise.

Most of its people still practice a traditional way of life, shunning the hectic pace and material concerns of the outside world.

Lola Island is comprised of nearly 100 acres of coconut palms and dense bush, surrounded by white coral sand beach on the northern end, and coral reef on the southerly end facing Pualako Reef and the open Solomon Sea beyond.

Sport fishing is magic and ranges from light tackle lagoon fishing for Queenfish, Trevally, Mangrove Jack and the elusive Bonefish to deep sea trolling for Sailfish, Yellow fin Tuna, Wahoo, Spanish Mackerel, Bonito and Dogtooth. In between, you can cast poppers into the outer breaking reef for Giant Trevally, or take on a Black Marlin.

Also enjoy the good popper fishing for Giant Trevally with the best fish being on the outside reef. Evening light tackle trolling with small minnow lures and 6kg tackle inside the lagoon is excellent fun too.

This is pioneering sport fishing with huge areas of water to be explored. Add to this seasonal change, moon and tide phases, other fishing techniques and you can see the possibilities.

Offshore, Wahoo and Mahi Mahi are often caught and good numbers of Sailfish are present from June through December close inshore.

Dogtooth Tuna is also present, but seem to be caught around deeper drop-offs early and late in the day.

Whether trolling the deep blue waters for game fish such as Marlin, Sailfish, Mahimahi or Tuna, or working the reef drop-offs for Spanish Mackerel, Coral Trout or Giant Trevally, the fishing operators have the tackle and the expertise to load the dice in your favour.

The scenery you cruise past while fishing this area will really blow you away; white coral sand beaches with lush tropical rainforest back-grounds and azure blue water. This all adds up to unbeatable fishing in one of the world's last untouched paradises.
