Hauraki Gulf Fishing Report 211016

  • General Saltwater, Auckland and The Hauraki Gulf

Had a great time out fishing stick-baits and softies with Daniel de Jong and TV show Fishing and Adventure host Scott Parry yesterday. We launched out of Big Manly Beach and headed north, hoping to find the big snapper encountered by Daniel two days earlier. Ended up near Mahurangi before finding the fish this time, but it was worth the effort, with some nice fish falling to our lures. It was a real buzz to be catching hefty snapper on stick-baits - the casting angles required are similar to those used for soft-plastics and the resulting bites can be very savage! Definitely going to give them a go again, as they seem to get fewer but bigger fish, and the bonus is that decent kingfish like them too, as I found out!
