Hauraki Gulf Fishing Report 090118

  • General Saltwater, Auckland and The Hauraki Gulf

After an enjoyable festive period, we are back into the swing of things at Hauraki Express. Conforming with the usual trend, the work-up fishing has really slowed down. There has been some gannet and dolphin action found between the outside corner of the cable zone north of the Noises over to the north Gannet Rock area in 40+m depths, although the snapper are tentative on the bite and not large by any means. A good bet this time of year is using softbaits in the inner Gulf channels and sandbanks, especially at dawn or dusk.

On a more positive note the annual influx of kingfish has seen good numbers of rats and legal specimens up to 90cm around the usual inshore reefs and marker buoys. Stickbaits and livebaits should bring some exhilarating action over the next few months so get amongst!
