Bay of Plenty Fishing Report 211216

21 December 2016

This week the fishing out of Tauranga has been nuts! The weather has come right, with the sun having some heat in it and the wind being very light, we have enjoyed some flat calm sea to go with the great fishing.

We have been catching some great snapper and kingfish over the last week, we have landed six snapper over the 20lb mark and two over 25lb!

Kingfish have been in great numbers, still we are having great fishing using surface lures in the usual spots, the kingys are in good numbers in the deep as well. We are landing some very nice solid fish which have been great for the anglers to grab a picture and let them swim away for another day. For the game fishing, the water has cooled down to around 18 degree and got back to a mix of green and blue.

On a positive, I have never seen so many gannets, its like the spring work ups in the gulf out here, it can only be a matter of time before the first marlin with be landed here out of the bay.

Merry xmas to all and safe summer boating,

Cheers, Ben.
