Taupo Fishing report for 23-27 April 2015

  • Trout, Taupo

This is such a lovely time of the year for those that can take off time and enjoy the warmer than normal daytime temperatures and the fantastic part of the world we live in. We have had a a little rainfall over the past couple of days, not enough  to make a difference to the river or lake levels but enough to freshen and green up the countryside.

Rivers are all in excellent condition and fish are moving in small numbers and filtering throughout the fishery, which is proving to be great wet or nymphing opportunities. There is little pressure which is to be expected at this time of the year though the weekend is looking fantastic weatherwise so there will no doubt be those that will take advantage of the settled conditions.

River mouths

Anchoring off the Tongariro and the Tauranga Taupo mouths has produced good fishing, wind at times has made things difficult, however generally fishing has been pretty consistent. Rips are well defined but still the lake levels are still low and by all accounts the weather indications are that its going to be a milder few months.

Lake fishing is still productive and daylight saving does make a little bit of a difference in the time we can get on the water. Fish have moved up in the water column a little but still are in excellent condition and good numbers with down rigging, jigging and leadlines all producing fish.

The water temperature is still very warm and there are plenty of swimmers taking advantage of the lake still! Lake O will be ringed by the duck shooters in a week so maybe this weekend would be a good time to take some time to fish the lake. Take care if you are there over duck shooting though, from 2nd May.

Feel free to call for an update anytime.
