On a recent Sunday, Lusty and Blundell Ltd technical service manager Reg Werner was part of a patrol involved in the successful rescue of a stranded father and son. The pair had been trapped by a fast rising tide and was not able to make their way safely back to shore.
During the operation, on a pitch black night, Reg was able to record the difference between what the crew could see using just their natural vision and what they could see using the new FLIR Ocean Scout TK handheld thermal camera. While the stranded pair was all but invisible to the naked eye, they were remarkably easy to identify using the thermal camera.
Reg’s video is a graphic illustration of just how useful an affordable Ocean Scout TK camera can be and how, in another situation, it could be the difference between a happy outcome like this and one far more tragic.
