Subscribe at boat show and win a day’s fishing with Nik Key

There are several great reasons to subscribe to New Zealand Fishing News at this year’s Hutchwilco NZ Boat Show.

For many years, the ‘spin and Win’ wheel has been at the heart of our boat show presence and 2017 is no different.

Each day we have several great ‘Number One” prizes up for grabs.

Nik Key at Snap Fishing Ventures has put up one place each day for a Hauraki Gulf fishing charter to be taken on Monday May 29.

Nik, a regular contributor to NZ Fishing News magazine and www.fishing.net.nz, specialises in all types of lure fishing or snapper, kingfish, john dory, gurnard, kahawai and trevally.

Nik likes nothing more than taking his clients out wide aboard Gulf Cat, a 10.5m (34ft) alloy catamaran powered by two 350HP motors that has been built for purpose.

A fast and particularly stable vessel, Westhaven based Gulf Cat gets Nik’s clients out to the fishing grounds quickly so they spend more time fishing and less time travelling.

Nik, aka ‘Captain Snap’, has been fishing the beautiful and bountiful Hauraki Gulf since a child (over 40 years). Having criss-crossed this area extensively all year round and for many years, Nik has built up a huge volume of knowledge which he readily shares with clients, putting them onto some great action.

If you don’t have your own tackle, no problems. Captain Nik carries only top tackle on board Gulf Cat and has all the latest gear and techniques to ensure an enjoyable, and successful day.

The four daily winners will be joined by NZ Fishing News’ Grant Dixon and Grant Blair to record the day’s action or features in both the magazine and on the website. Captain Nik will also be on our stand Thursday May 18 where he will happily answer any questions you might have on fishing in the Hauraki Gulf.

The second #1 wheel prize is a TiCA Tactica LCA100 baitcaster/jig rod combination, from Kilwell Sports. This kit was originally designed for the high-end Japanese market, but it won’t break the bank. It is suitable for fishing not only micro-jigs for snapper and the like, but or jigging for trout. The rod is manufactured using a two-piece ultra-high modulus graphite blank that features a fast action. One set a day will be given away. And if you miss out on either the charter trip of the rod and reel, there are hundreds of other prizes up for grabs.

All subscribers at the show will automatically receive a packet of Navico paddletail soft-baits as a gift with purchase.

All current and new subscribers at May 30 will be in the draw to win the Shimano ‘Set for Life’. This includes a quality Shimano set for soft-baiting, micro-jigging, jigging/livebaiting, straylining and topwater lure fishing along with leader, line, lures and accessories, along with a Straight Up Rod Rack to ensure your rods are safely stored. You don’t even have to be at the show to be in to win this magnificent collection of top-end Shimano tackle.

We have changed sites for the 2017 show and can now be found in the tackle hall – Hall One – on Site 140.

Subscriptions cost $89 for 12 issues, $160 for 24 issues. The cheapest option is by direct debit - $5.95 per issue, saving a whopping 37% off retail.
