Join Sunfish Charters and fish the rich waters off New Zealand's coast for big pelagic game fish or fish the many reefs for sports and bottom dwellers, dive world famous dive sites or enjoy the beauty of New Zealand's Eastern bays and the myriad of sea life that abounds in the warm waters of the South Pacific.
Sunfish 1 is available for private charter for game fishing, sports fishing, reef fishing, diving, cruising and corporate events. She is certified to operate from the Northland, Bay of Islands, Auckland, Barrier, Coromandel and the beautiful Bay of Plenty allowing us to tailor each charter to meet the demands of even the most discerning customer.Our skipper has 4 years of commercial experience backed up with a lifetime of recreational fishing in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans as well as the North Sea and the Caribbean Sea.

Sunfish Charters' 12 m purpose-built Sportsfisher is a true blue-water charter boat designed for serious game fishing and offshore deep sea fishing. Safety Features:
Sunfish 1 operates under strict Safe Ship Management and carries safety and life saving equipment that exceed maritime requirements. Her two reliable 375hp engines are designed to get you safely to your chosen destination.
Accommodation and Amenities:
We can sleep up to 6 adults in 3 cabins (2 doubles & 2 singles), so with only 4 adults on board, nobody will have to share a bed. On board we also have full toilet and shower facilities as well as most other home comforts including heating, air conditioning, full galley, 2 stereo systems and home movies.
Destinations:
Our base in Tauranga allows us to fish the rich waters around the islands of the western Bay of Plenty including Mayor, Motiti, Plate, the Bay of Plenty's many reefs such as Astrolabe, Penguin Shoals, Pudney Rock and Okaparu Reef to name a few; as well as the deep canyons and sea mounts East of Mayor Island. However, since our charters are "private" the customer is "king", we would do our best to accommodate any reasonable wishes you have with regard to target species, fishing methods and technique as well as fishing locations.
Trip Options:
Sunfish Charters offers tailor-made game fishing safaris, day trips and extended live aboard charters for game fishing, sports fishing, diving, sightseeing cruises & corporate events.
Our charter boat can carry up to 18 passengers in enclosed waters, 12 passengers offshore with sleeping accommodation for 6 people (2 double plus 2 single in three cabins) for overnight trips. The big cockpit can comfortably accommodate 7 anglers on a fishing charter or 8 divers on a dive charter.
Half Day Trips:
If you are having a good time and catching lots of fish, with a half day charter (5 hours) you still have the option on the day (subject to availability), to extend the charter on an hourly basis at $125 per hour.
Day Trips:
On full day (10 hour) charters our prices include everything you need for a fun day on the water: GST, rods, reels, end tackle, bait, salt ice, non-alcoholic beverages, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and a light lunch (freshly made bacon rolls or sandwiches).
While we can cater to 12 passengers, a maximum of 7 is better with fishing in mind or 8 divers on a dive charter.
Overnight Trips:
Get the best of both worlds (sportsfishing and bottom fishing) with a 24 hour trip - fish the afternoons and changing light followed by a night drift for broadbill swordfish (weather permitting) then be in the right spot in the early morning to catch the best feeding time.
If game fishing, we recommend night drifting for the elusive broadbill swordfish – one of the most powerful game fish (pound for pound) in the sea.
On extended charters you are free to arrange your own catering but we can provide full catering for $40 per person per day. We have sleeping accommodation for 6 people (2 double plus 2 single in three cabins).

Catering:
Half-day charter rates include non-alcoholic beverages.
Full Day charter rates include a light lunch and non-alcoholic beverages. On full day charters you can choose to bring your own food, drinks and bait and save $100 on the advertised charter rate.
On extended charters you are free to arrange your own catering but we can provide full catering for $40 per person per day.
Tackle:
The price for fishing charters includes the use of the latest top class fishing gear for big game fishing, sports fishing and bottom fishing but you are also welcome to bring along your own fishing equipment and other supplies of your choice.
