Can someone tell me please are the tide times given for Pouto Point
near enough to apply to most places on the Kaipara or if not what is
the time difference for various places.

Am primarily concernced with the Glorit/Makerau area so as to plan when
can get down the river & back which I have found to be on the safe side
needs a min of 2hrs either side of low altho always a worry if tide is dropping.

With the days being so short this time of year need to get the tides right to
avoid the risk of being stuck out overnight.

I use the Pouto tide times for my Kaipara trips and I find them accurate. However you need to add on time depending on how far you are from Pouto. I fish the flats and find the tide turns about half an hour after the posted time.

Thanks guys for that ... was exactly what I wanted to know.

Hope to go out Thurs weather permitting & need a couple of
hours min either side of low tide to get back in to the ramp
at that river with the clubhouse close to Glorit.

With the days getting shorter with light begining to fade not
long after 5 pm have to know there will be enough water in
order to avoid not being able to make out the channel marker
stakes & avoid having to stay out overnight.

Also have to judge the tide right in order to have enough water
to get to the flounder net before coming in so the advice re 30 mins
tide difference will be a help.

I have launched from there at full low tide, once, but not again. Smile

Yeah so have I but was quite a few years ago & must have changed
considerably as now about three places that likely to bottom out & given
the colour of the water there hard to know exactly where they are also
if you run aground on a falling tide would be lucky to get off.

Plus at low tide risk taking a fall on the steepish ramp which gets very
slippery towards the end & sometimes even have to step off the ramp
if tide is really low then wallow in the mud.

Years ago could go behind the island even at low tide but all that area
come high & dry now.

Wonder if the river channel will continue to become more difficult to navigate,
if so eventually may not be able to get out at all.

The problem with the ramp is that the concrete only extends to the low tide mark (and reasonably so) and you can drop your trailer wheels off the ramp causing a certain amount of difficulty when launching on your own!

However I haven't had too much trouble negotiating the channels at low tide. I follow the markers until opposite the island then cut back and go round the E side. Mind you - I'm only in a 12 ft tinny.

hehe im in Tangiteroria (half way between Whangarei and Dargaville) and i add 4hr to pouto point for floating on the river shooting ducks hopefully, as well as just cruising the river. so high tide at pouto point is low here and you get this thing called the bore when it changes but only comes in for 4hrs and then all out hauling A!!Ouch

OMG ....... going by that chart low tide on Thurs is at 3 35 pm meaning
that if it applied also at Glorit then would be touch & go to get in before
the light fades particularly if there was any sort of discrepancy such as
the river out flow delaying the tidal incoming.

Hmnn ... might be better to play safe & go out on the gulf Friday.
