Awesome reports there. These are the times when I wish my 14' tinny would grow another metre or two as I would love to be getting out amongst that for a change.

Yeah Karp, what a speed machine you've got for chasing fish!
Off The Hook, most of it concentrated about 10 - 12nm from Tiri - it was heading back East when I left. Heh, not all about size Betterthanwork
...although (yes)today it seemed like an odd thing to do, to go fishing that is. But
when the planets line up completely out of the blue, and the wind is 20 - 30 kts
in the gulf. Yeah, nah, yeah, nah, already 11a.m.....11:05 yeah. Gone.
Checked out a Rainbow under Rangitoto on the way out
There were these monster KY around the place, but I didn't have them
around me until the last 1/2 hour. They are huge and fight like they
mean it. 60cm of attitude , smoke 'em if ya got 'em
The Snapper played the game for an hour or so before the KY arrived.
And even tho' a bit of a bash back to northern Tiri for a fillet , the
ride out and back along the Peninsula was all good even at speed.
Healthy fish all in the 60 - 70cm range. Limit of fish if desired no
worries. Home by home time (5:30)
Nice specimen this one
All in all, very happy with a few hours dash out into the catch patch
Guess the boat show is on the cards now.. just to see if there's any new toys..

Cheers PD. No doubt Amateur has a few tucked away somewhere Tightlines2 and this winter I'm trialling a couple more little SP thingys ready for summer if they work out well on the local Red brigade, so far so good , but more R & D required. Even though it was very windy and some big holes in the sea opened up from out in the Gulf coming back to Tiri ( ), heading out with wind and tide was sweet-as, also from Tiri back to Weiti, 30kt boat speed all the way...and it's as smooth as silk out there today .....reckon it would be a perfect day for a fish! I'm off for some bike training this arvo' otherwise I'd be tempted to try for a few over 70cm fish, reckon they were there, just a tad further north.. Filleting sure does take a little longer, winter fish with the slippery oils/fats in all. Each Snapper had the bone growth too.

Friday looks a better day forecast weather wise at the moment Wetspot..wait and see I guess.
Bit like today.
Much patience by Bruce, as the last time we escaped was when I still
had the 150 2 stroke and that trip was to be like a rugby match, a game
of two halves. Well the Ref. blew the whistle and out into the field we
went earlier this morning. Coffees in hand, smooth sea, sun up and
warming away the early grey, the boat sitting on a steady 20 something
knots and the day was looking mighty fine.
Crickey it was quiet north of Tiri. So we went further afield and
cottoned onto a nice school of Snapper which kept us well amused. Bruce bedding in the new rod/reel nicely A shift of possie and Bruce ended up tussling with a fiesty
Kingfish that just wouldn't give up, and it was destined without question for a particularly appreciative neighbour. That's two from two for Bruce.

A serious shot was fired from me, I had the big gun out just in case
via a 400gm Jig on 120lb trace, 37kg braid, Torsa30, Tcurve rod
....spent just a few unsuccessful speed winds and...yep, we're on! It's
been a while since I've hooked a lil' freight train, but even with the
fish feeling well hooked and taking some serious amount of string with
a welcome bend in the rod, I got done - the line went limp. Lost the
lot.
Upon calm and non-expletive reflection (now ), reckon it must have been a Couda biting at the swivel, and shredded the line just below it.
Oh yeah the 'couda are back in town,..lost a very nice jig and 4 SP
terminal tackle to the swine today. Mind you it was hard to complain,
as the sun was out, the wind 10-15 knots and the fish were biting.
Must have all been male Snapper... bit o' skirt on the hooks, it was
just one of those sessions. A couple of 'em...two tone tails are soooo in right now...
Home, done and dusted @ 3:30pm, cheers Bruce.
..and I seem to have semi-inadvertantly but significantly contributed to global warming, with this latest batch of wildfire jerky

Yeah Boulder it's been such a while since the last Couda attack for me, I'd forgotten how annoying they are. They're gonna cause havoc on the ultra-light gear...fastest re-rigger in the east. I only saw 2 boats out there all day Mahiman...should've known it was someone from around here on the horizon..on a Monday Bruce was keen on the Glow Squid and with the Depth Charge skirted hook it was dynamite on the bigger Snapper and a second Kingi caught and landed by Bruce, both on the Glow Squid. Most excellent fun on the brand new Stradic4000 Interestingly the Snapper were throwing up some remains from real Squids which might have accounted for some of the intense scrutiny from the red brigade below The extended Whanau's are into a good fresh fish meal or two today, along with some smoked fish in a couple more.

Cheers there Keith C, Amateur, Snap and Capnnod , it's been a sweet few sessions lately. Macca - yeah, managed to catch quite a few Kingi's either trying to nab Snapper (just normal bottom twitching style), or on the retrieve with Glow Squid - me and several other Fisho's now out in their various patches around the north island. Hard case. Off The Hook - where is your normal stomping ground during the day? Had a mate getting right into excellent fish the other day in just a few feet of water, over a sandy beach front...drifting and throwing the little SPs, absolutely nailing Snapper to 15lbs It never ceases to amaze where good fish are caught, and how. Forever learning. Also increasing my wish list, as you do, for things on the boat, equipment, and terminal tackle (some already being tested, and continuing over the winter as I like to prove stuff to myself and learn why something works or not).
