Mate and I launched his trusty Dinghy near Titirangi and rowed/drifted down with the current to a muddy, flat looking area and set the net. We had a fish nearby in about 1M of water, catching only small Snapper. Unfortunately nothing was caught in this set, so we went a little further around the point with the incoming tide and set amongst the mangroves. Mullet were jumping out of the water nearby so we had high hopes. However nil caught unfortunately. Luckily I brought along my flounder spear. Had a quick look around the beach upon return and managed to spear a really nice flatty which was devoured for lunch today. My fishing lately has been dreadful. But happy I managed something to eat this time. |

We got 4 snapper (sorry the Mrs and my son did) I just cast baits and baited hooks. Some nice pannies though. Kept one! Does anyone know if you can net mullet by the Tuakau bridge? There's a lot of current but there's a small beach there that I have thought about putting the net in on dark parallel to the shoreline. |
gurnard wrote: Yeah, Tuakau is south of Hoods landing. I guess I'll have a go with trial and error. Have set the new net twice this week for zero fish so I'm itching to work this damn thing out |
gurnard wrote: Have a look at the MPI website or download the fishing rules app. There is NO set netting allowed anywhere near the heads. This photo is a screen shot from the website. Hoods landing is much closer to the heads than Tuakau is. |

I bought one from Smart Marine but it did not have enough floats, which ended in way too much by catch as it was sitting to low. After adding more floats it was away. Mullet have been hard to come by lately in my end of the harbour. Haven't been to the river for a few years now. |
