More details to follow, word is that Lou and Cam Rathe (dad & son) are anchored in Fitzroy tonight with a 150kg Broadie in the boot. They got it today up around the Hauraki Canyon 20 miles north of Barrier. Short fight of a bit over half hour for such a good conditioned fish. Hopefully Cam will post some pics and first hand account after the rumbos have left him alone.

Hi Tom, it would've been a good trip to be on. Location was the Barrier Bank, and after soaking a bait much of the evening it struck at 8:45am and was landed 35 minutes later. The line was 60kg (take no prisoners!) and the bait was a very soggy skippy. Cam was the angler. It weighed exactly 150kg. Looking forward to some pics. Our weighsheets have a 'comments' section, and on this one it says "tastes good"! Well done lads. Hope it was on your rod Tom.

We put in a solid 24 hours out wide thursday and friday for only a few jemfish, bluenose and rays bream. We did 15 daytime deep drops and drifted baits all night but no swords came our way. Bluenose and jemfish were such a pain this trip. No matter how big a bait, or even 60m off the bottem they still found most baits after a while. I think they have all headed north to spawn for the time being. The old man had 5 bites from 13 drops the last time he was out in late July but september must be a bit late in the year for them. Might give it another go in January i think.
