Thinking of heading over there soon for a day.

Fished it from a kayak with good success. Seen a few people fishing it so I assume there is access to walk in. Much better than Orokawa I reckon.

Cheers BadFish, good to know there are some fish around there.  Snapper?

You definitely can walk in, one of my mates has been there surfing before.

Snapper a plenty, been more trevs and JDs there of late though but haven't been down in three weeks. Still some good ones further up the coast so should be some down there. Not that I've managed to pull many out of the weeds few big bust offs keepin me keen though of course.

Fished a spot there many moons ago, pretty hairy climbing down from the track.  We walked in from Waihi Beach, but believe there is better/easier access on another track.  Plenty of BIG ky and 1 OK snapper, not much else (not our day).

Went to Homunga bay for a 3 hours or so yesterday.  Caught basically nothing just a few random spiky brown fish of some sort, there were a couple of other guys there who got a couple of small KY.  Awesome looking spot though at the southern point.

Access from Ngatitangata Rd (off golden valley rd) is fairly easy it's about a 40 minute walk down the hill.  Getting back up the hill is of course a little more difficult but not too bad.

Yeah they swallow the hook alright - if it weren't for that I wouldn't really mind catching them.

2 july 2008   was the last post for Homunga Bay come on guys got some good fishing along that stretch of coast Hit Homunga today around noon (had to wait for the frost and fog to clear) had the whole southern point to my self got the berly working stray lined a whole pillie and sat back to watch the berly do its job, There was snapper and JDs cruising the berly and later smaller KYs , no luck on the straylining, tried ledger rig with squid and pillies no luck today guys, when I got back to the car park a couple of guys said they had been on the point from day break till around 10 am then moved to the beach with no luck. Weather was slight breeze from the NE low tide at 1130 am .Let us know how you go

Walked down the track mid summer 2012, one of the few days we had westerly winds. Caught one good snapper and a few small bait fish. Was best with high tide, low tide water was pretty shallow, looked good out fourth as the boaties were hovering around- wouldn't want much of an onshore swell but on a nice day awesome place to be in. We want to try in winter, does the cooling down of the water affect the of rack fishing much?Smile

Thinking of heading out homunga bay this weekend can you get there from the track that takes you to orokawa bay?

Yeh, you can. DOC says 45minutes to orokawa from waihi, and another 2 hours from orokawa t homunga. Best to park up (or drop off) at ngatitangata rd. Never been there before but pretty sure there is a track down from there.

Swellmap says stay at home.
