I'm still in tears over how crap the Cicada activity is (lowland is ok, hills are QUIET!) and how dangerously low the river levels are down here Bazza... Not a great season.

You gotta admit all the same Andrew that you guys down there have been rather spoilt over the past four or five seasons.

Spare a thought for we poor disadvantaged Jaffas who with the possible exception of Lake Pupuke we have to travel a fair distance for even half decent fishing & lunchtime jaunt are not an option unless we can arrange an 8 hr lunch break.

Very true Bazza, did manage some nice fish last weekend, but boy are they skitterish with the low water! Lowland fisheries are going well in both Wellington and the Wairarapa.

Mind you could be worse.... talking to a colleague who fished the Lewis Pass area a few weekends back who ran into 20 individual groups on a backcountry river!!!! Why bother?! That's a real shame.

I would say a combination of the heat, weather and access all combine to stop fishing, along with for myself a distasteful episode at a Rotorua Stream mouth in January. Autumn though is coming along with new lines and float tubes!

Basically an individual fishing over the top of me, bad enough when you hook a fish and other jump on top of your water, basically just moved onto new water and had a great time. Unfortunately seems to be part of the "culture" of that area.

Yes Ivan ... the guys called in on the way home & said the fishing on the lake was a bit slow to start with
but really picked up once you increased the charges & shortened the fuses.

Here are a couple of pics of our overnight trip Monday evening.

Rod with a nice snap.

Sunrise & only me fishing whilst you guys were conducting a snoring competion & incidentally Ike, you were the clear winner by far with Lloyd second, then Rod trying his best but simply not in the same league..

Not a bad result tho overall so who says the fishing in the Tauranga harbour is RS ???????.
Incidentally froze some fillets for Rod to take back & they will be in Sydney by now .... maybe he & Wendy will be even having NZ snapper for dinner as I write.

Thanx for everything mate just regret I couldn't join in the freshwater bit for as you know had all the bereavement details to deal with from a family member dying in Lautoka & trying to work thru the mire of processes that need to be dealt with.

We had a couple of fillets tonight done as Thai curry on saffron flavoured rice washed down by a generous sized glass of 12 yo Chivas Regal.

Seems there is a group of gruff old men who appeared there everyday, talked only to each other, every other word was f### and did what they wanted. Not things you run into at other venues but this spot seems to have this sort of "individual".
