Hi Guys

I am looking at buying new tanks.. I have integrated weights, which is a solid block of 4 or 4.5kg per side.

I currently use a 10Kg steel but am looking at buying a 12Kg steel (actually x 2)

Do I need to get my weights cut so I can remove sections of weight? Am I correct in thinking you remove weight the heavier the tank? Ali tanks are too long for me and stop me getting out of the boat LOL hence the need for short fat tanks.

ideas please, cheers in advance Amanda

Id say you will be able to get away with it just use your bcd when you are on the bottom, have a dive and see how it goes

I wouldn't worry - for all the hassle, it won't make much of a difference as long as you figure out  your buoyancy with the new system.

Hi Amanda, how's my fave dinosaur?

I use both a 10 kg and 12 kg and never alter weights.
Been getting many bugs?

If you stick steel-steel should be fine, but some steels are much lighter in the water than others. Give it a try...

I prefer not to inflate the BCD unless I have to, hell most of the time I don't even wear one (construction diver - walks on the bottom...). Try diving without a BCD and see how little energy you use moving through the water in comparison...

But, I would recommend that you run the minimum ballast weight that you can get away with. I use a pocket belt, 7 pockets, 18Kg fully loaded but in some configurations only dive with 3Kg of lead.
