Has anybody mucked around with rubber lengths on their 120 and found what works best in terms of accuracy for 2x 16mm with a 7mm shaft? Currently have them rigged a couple of cm longer than the standard "single 20" length, but am thinking of chopping them down a bit. Seems to shoot high. Just wondering if anyone has already done this and knows what the perfect length is before I do? Cheers.

Hey bro if the gun is shooting high it is over powered. Need a longer rubber or a thicker shaft

Cheers John, will try a new shaft and see how it goes. Mines more rust than steel at the moment so about time for a new one anyway

There are a number of things affecting accuracy of rail guns. Overpowering your gun is one, and the length of your spear is another. Both determine the shaft whip, and depending on the harmonics of the spear, this will determine if it shoots high or low.
I would opt for a slightly longer spear, as opposed to a thicker one to try and change the harmonics. A 7.5 or 8mm spear is pretty much overkill for a 120.
If you want to push a spear to the upper limits of velocity, you need to look at an enclosed track gun, otherwise accuracy will suffer.

Thanks Spearsniper, some food for thought. Not sure I want to make the gun any longer than I have to for snooping around with. How much longer were you suggesting? is another 10cm enough to make a noticeable change? I thought double rubbers on a 120 were reasonably common and there must be some kind of "standard" setup for them? Anyway, cheers for the help will have a play around and see what happens.

Im fairly confident most people run a single 20mm band with a 7 or 7.5mm shaft on their 120s so i followed suit and it works well. I tied a longer than standard rubber then cut it down to make it perform better. I beleive office people like to run double 16s with the same size shaft. Wildblue used to have a chart but other online shops like adreno also have charts for reccomended rubber lengths for different size guns. I like less spear overhang when I use a gun but only for personal preferance.

When I bought my 120 from Rob in Durban, in 1999, I asked him about the rubbers, he said that if you can handle the 20 that is the way to go. He said that he would only recommend 2 X 16s if you can't pull the 20 up the shaft. I'm using a 20. My gun came with the standard 7mm shaft.
Never underestimate and old man with a spear gun ;)
