most small boats are skippered by owner, but in my case wife owns boat so is she responsible  if i perish as skipper?

but interestingly if the skipper is not around to face the consequences after a accident who is next inline????

Hmmm and is that not what basic maritime law is and has been for 100s if not 1000s of yrs, internationally and we need another law to say so?
let alone a very baddly written and conceived  law in some respects....

"most small boats are skippered by owner, but in my case wife owns boat so is she responsible  if i perish as skipper?"
Which is also the case with our boat.. my wife wanted a boat, Wev brought the boat, it is in her name....I just maintain, organise the trips, make sure everything is 'ship shape' etc.
So Am I crew and as owner She the Skipper.... NO.
Lets take big ships.. even the titanic... if the owner is on the boat, they are NOT the skipper....

So the skipper (me ) has the final call....which on occasions the wife has a little trouble getting used to.....  married guys will under stand this lol

According to the report I saw on TV there was one person in the boat and he fell out, leaving the boat to carry on without anyone steering. Another time when clipping the cut out lanyard on would have been a good idea, but that's easy to say now.

Nope... we have rules, advice and laws... they dont count... ppl go out ignore them..get into trouble and die.
Pollies and councillors see a political PR opportunity
So they make new rules, laws more advice "education"   and nothing changes...

Now If we had the original rules, took all the money spent on revising the new laws, and fired the over paid desk jockey bureaucrats admin the process, give that money to the coast guard, or harbour master or police launches to administer the original laws.....then maybe we would have a difference.
But simply spending a lot of rate payers money on some new ineffective regs that cant be policed/ adminisared is a total waste of resources
Go Len Brown.....and Auckland city bureaucrats

maybe its time to look at not just having elections for mayor/ counsellors  but key positions within the local body administration to. ?????
