I'm looking at boats and was wondering what peoples experiences were with thundercats?
I realise they'd be a bit bumpy in the rough stuff. I'm not too concerned with that, I probably wouldn't use it in the rough anyway, and if I did they're so fast that it wouldn't be for long.
Pros/cons?

Go for it. I have a 4.2takacat with a 30hp. Gets up and goes plus do big trips on bugger all gas. Less than 20lt with 3 guys to aldies in nice weather. Did hen and chicks with tom the other day on about 22/23lt. Weigh bugger all so easy to tow and use. Not as bad as you would imagine in the rough. Not the best into a headwind. Great value for money as can go as far as other much bigger boats. Ron baker takes his to cuvier by himself! .

Sweet, sounds positive. Take me for a hoon one day, I'll buy you lunch at the riverhead pub.
I'd probably get a 50 on the back for banter.

A tiller steer 50 is a bit tiring to hold onto (especially as you accelerate), so if a 40 is enough then perhaps do that.

I've never been on a Thundercat, but all soft bottom boats flex, and it's more pronounced with power and/or weight on the transom. In my mind the only reason to buy a soft boat is so you can roll it up and throw it in your car boot. It that's not going to happen then a RIB is a much better sea boat, and far less precious when it comes to beaching or nudging up to rocks.

Send a pm to Blurt, he had a spearing thundercat with gun racks, a chilli bin with chart plotter bolted to it. With one person it went 83kph, with two of us with gear it went 56kph.

My one and only time on it to the mercs and back compressed my spine by 3", but your not concerned about that Herby!

I have a caeser thundercat with a yamaha 30 on it. Softer than traditional boats in the rough, will keep up with most other craft, good range with just the 25l bladder. My last outing was a round trip of 55km.......still got about a third of bladder left. Great for beach launching and retreiving through the surf.
Biggest drawback is the wet ride if choppy, but then if you are geared up in a wetsuit no problemo. I have considered putting a 50hp on but I think it would be fairly rare to be able to use the extra juice anyway, due to sea conditions and the need to keep the prop in the water most of the time.

Could be convinced to sell as need some cash for car purchase.

Bring on some good weather- I just bought a thundercat.
Seems like a good boat, good trailer, very good motor (yammie 50 that's had bugger all use), at a very good price.

I'm calling it 'Chunder Cat'

What make did you buy Herby? I raced them for about 8 years. 50HP is a better call than lower HP's. Some boats also ride softer than others. Have fun mate. If you feel the torque of the motor is to much and pulling hard on your arm, then tie a bungy cord from the back corner of the motor going to the back left of the motor. This will counter the rotation from the prop that causes the torque and pulling on your arm. Cheers

Did you pick it up today? I saw a blue one heading north on SH1 about 2.40pm, and I wondered if it was you. I think it was somewhere near Putararu, but I can't really remember.

I was heading south.

P.S. Well done mate

Was it being towed by a silver station wagon? If so then that'll very likely have been me. Took it straight to the boat ramp and went for a hoon.
Now time to plan some adventures... Ti Point here I come!

It's a Gemini.
