i have a 2.3hp honda 4 stroke with the centrifugal clutch(more revs it engages)recently starts but would not engage, lots of noises, took it in and it is the bearing seized on drive shaft  in clutch system.
told you have had water up there,no history of motor as part of boat deal.
now motor 4 yr old cost new about $1300,bearing apparently fail after 4/5 years but i guess that depends on use.
repair bill to strip motor new bearing $400 a 1/3 of cost of new motor

so if anyone thinking of buying one this is just a little warning of what to expect in time.

Any brand of engine that gets water in gearbox will fail. I have one of those engines myself and have done many hundreds of hours on it trolling, it is 6yrs old now - never had a problem

While you have it apart may be a good idea to replace the friction pads too .
