The world's most extensive fishing film festival RISE will screen in New Zealand theatres between August 25th and September 11th. The festival locations include AucklandHamilton, Rotorua, Taupo, Hawkes Bay, Palmerston North, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch and Dunedin.

In its 9th year, RISE is on a quest to showcase the diverse world of fly fishing, to connect anglers through shared experience and to create public awareness of fly fishing's new vibrant emergence. The festival allows the fishing community to share their passion for the sport, by attending film screenings across the country.

RISE screens exclusive content from the world’s best fly fishing film makers. Cinema audiences will be gripped by stunning footage from New ZealandIcelandArgentinaBahamasUSAAustralia and Alaska, presented in high definition on the big screen.

Gin-Clear Media's Backcountry – North Island is the feature film of the festivalThe backcountry ofNew Zealand holds a special place in the heart of all Kiwis.  “Going bush” is a national past time, and Kiwi fly fishers like nothing better than the sun on their backpack, the cold touch of a mountain stream and the opportunity to sight fishing to giant trout in pristine settings.

The film follows six fly fishermen, from different places and different walks of life, as they each explore a treasured corner of the North Island. This land of active volcanoes, rugged gorges and dense forests provides an epic backdrop for some of the best trout fishing on the planet. As each story weaves into the fabric of the film it becomes evident that, despite their differences, the characters are all bound together by their passion for the backcountry.

As fly fishers, spending time in wild places brings us closer to the natural world. In this soulful place, we are catalyzed to enjoy, learn and protect. RISE celebrates and shares this spirit by bringing each adventure to life on the cinema screen.

For many, RISE Fly Fishing Film Festival has become so much more than just going to the cinema. These annual fish-fests have become a true celebration of fly fishing, it's an excuse to get together with friends and reminisce about the past season, as well as look forward to the season to come.

The festival is presented by Gin-Clear Media and for more tour information, incl. local show dates, movie trailers etc. visit http://www.gin-clear.com/filmfest/

Hope to see you there boys!

Sorry about that, but we could not hire the reading Cinema, as they don't do private functions anymore.
It's a bugger, as i would have loved to come to Invers and visit my good mates.
It has always been a great show there! Cry

My mate & I really enjoyed the film festival last night in Auckland. There were some great films shown, definitely would have liked to see more of the first one in Alaska, might have to track that down online.
Some beautiful scenery and amazing fish caught by skilled anglers is always a pleasure to watch, I believe we even saw the forums very own flyfisher in the Back Country North Island film. If you get a chance, go and see them when they're in your city

Yip some great films on show last night. The one in Alaska and the backcountry north island one were the standouts. Great to see Andrew's skills on the big screen and I won a hat in the raffle! An enjoyable night as always.

Classic, I have not seen it yet, but looking forward to it! Of the days and days captured, only a few minutes makes the cut I believe - there should be a stonking big brown hen taken Cicada in there from a small Wairarapa stream I hope?? Stuck in dingy 'ol Singapore, smog, work and a gizzzillion people, wishing I was on a river somewhere!...

Man some quality film work there, saw it for the first time tonight, really like what Gin-Clear did by following characters from different parts of the NI and their "story's" - makes much more interesting viewing than an hour of the same stuff, dry fly takes and jumping fish.

The respect the other guys have for the environment shows as does their attitudes to the back-country. Took my mum and dad and they loved it! Made me bloody proud to be a kiwi and do what I do.

If you have not seen it yet, I really recommend it, some amazing saltwater fly action as well.
