Be interested to know how the commercials treat this fish. Have had it fresh in fish & chips ,beautiful,no strong taste ,and cant imagine them trunking every one straight away. Also see Lemon fish in shops. If it was strong & ammonia flavoured no one would buy it.

Caught one yesterday. Bled from tail ,and into ice brine, not trunked until i got home. So will see how it goes.

Wondering if Lemon fish in shops is the spotty dog fish ,rig or is it tope shark.

I've seen both spotty and tope shark trunks sold as lemonfish in the shops.

1.5m is a big spotty shark, probably up over 15kg. I'd imagine that would have alot to do with it not tasting great.

My favorite eating size is the smaller ones up to 4kg.
I trunk mine or just gut them and get rid of the sack of fluid that runs along the spine, give them a few washes in the sea to remove any blood then put them in the chilly with ice. I like to do them fresh before they develop that red colour on their belly.

I love them when done in smaller pieces in beer batter, delicious.

There is something about them that people don't like though,  not sure if it's the texture or if people get a taste of immonia and it puts them off.
