I would have thought the shape of the face and the bulb combined would make it run a little deeper?

Well until Peter posts maybe some guessing. As I. Understand it the bulb on a ship displaces water in a greater width allowing the following item to run cleaner. Does then a lure want to run cleaner or as I see it in a more agitated motion. Just some inexperienced thoughts.

Just guessing here but I think that the bulb will try to pull down and act like a keel.

Do you mean murph that the lure will say run true, therefore trail the hook in a true position. Would this also be dependant on the face shape of the lure.

We'll see. Lure shapes are based on angles, lengths and curves.

- Most stable is a sphere, doesn't break the surface / meniscus
- Most unstable is a cube, or square block. lengthen it and it becomes more stable
- The rounder the edges the more it digs in ie like the sphere
- The sharper the edges the more is cuts through the surface and the more it digs in.

So the Icebreaker project / lures are about a stable sphere, or part of one, trying to control a large angled face, and other shapes to come, not easy and unlikely to be right first go, but it would be great if it was.

Had our first report on the Shredder used as a teaser above a dredge, the lure posted up here last week

Kyle Peet posted to‎ Peter Pakula
Yesterday near Ocean City, MD, United States
Have had the "shredder " in the water for 2 days and have raised 6 white marlin to it

I don't have a degree in hydrodynamics so I'm not going to predict what it would do but my feeling is that the bulb will have a stabilising effect.  The spherical shape increases the surface area which will cause more drag over that part of the lure face.  The angle cut and the reverse taper are pretty standard features on lots of lures though so the only question is what will the dome do to it.

I'm a firm believer that angle faced lures benefit from having a keel, I do it by adding a lump of lead below the leader hole which has resulted in very true running lures.

just like a bill, or a blunt nose of a tuna, I suppose.  one would be for speed and one would be stability I suppose maybe, not sure like murf

First one of these I've made for a while, this one is heading to San Diego.

"Bagus", black back, mirror insert & red eye.... the simple things are often the best.  Waiting on some skirts to arrive for this one.

Ah, white marlin, I love them to bits.  This mini straight runner head skirted in pink brought four of them to the boat in three days last week.  Just a plain white head, nothing fancy about it at all.  But any lure is a pretty lure when attached to a billfish.

hello there,
I have several questions concerning the manufacture of insert.
how you mold insert made?
how you put the clear plastic tube?
your eyes are also resin?
cutting a lure from a tube of resin, what tools do you use?

thank you

Inserts are made the same way as lures are made, shape a master to suit your own lure head, make a mold of it and use the mold to produce more of the same.

The plastic tube goes in the hole.... Can't say much more about that.

The 3D eyes are resin, some are tape products and others are purchased eyes.

To shape a lure from a tube of resin you will need a lathe of some sort to turn it on. Experiment with various tools until you find something that works for you. Try things like files, sharpened screwdrivers, wood turning tools and sandpaper.

Make sure you wear a good dust mask!!
