Went out on another lesson to increase my brail skills yesterday. Was pleasantly surprised to find vis of up to 10m. We were amazed by the abundance of life where we were, the crays were in the open was almost to easy, paua in the masses and moki everywhere!

Also of note found my first packhorse cray and saw a decent 6kg plus snapper in close just behind the swell but it was to fast for me evidently.

Luckily had a warm 3 month old double brown box to celebrate!

We should make this a nice repository for Hawkes Bay dive stories/conditions/any other HB dive related matter. JamesHB has done a great job starting it off, now I shall try and add merit to the HB forum.
Went out yesterday(Friday) with UncleCassie, Phil and Luke on their boat at Waimarama. Once we left we could tell the vis was ridiculously good, this was confirmed with the first dive of the day with clear 15m vis at the Northern Rocks. A dinner of Butterfish later we headed to find some big Kingies for the BBQ, found huge schools and KY but the Kingies tended to stick just out of range, however a few KY and Blue Mao Mao did the dinner plate well.
We tried trolling, getting a KY on and then jumping in with Kingies nipping at their heels however the larger Kingies tended to back off when we slid into the water..
All in all a fun first dive at Waimarama for myself, stoked about the vis and hope it comes around again sometime.

back out to pourerere this morning with stunning conditions. Went off then off the muudy point reef and had 7-8m vis with plenty of blue moki and big schools of kahawai around hardly a ripple on the water.

Awesome! The Bay and surrounding coast seems to hold much larger moki than more southern waters im finding

Sure did, I put it back however. I felt guilty taking it as it was a loner and ridiculously easy to get, and we already had a good feed of reds.

Pourerere - The sea is dead flat but theres a band of milky water hugging the coastline. Blue water is about 200m off shore at best and a km off at worst in the bays and in the milk the viz was about a half metre.
Having said that I still managed 10 paua and 1 cray but boy did I have to grovel for it.
There was a ton of people diving out there in the crap.
It might clear up tomorrow not sure. The rain last week has caused havoc again. It was over the road in places again. Roads all clear now though. Good luck.
