always sucks losing what looks like a 20lbr, never mind it was probably 12lb so you dont need to make up stories for future reference, unless you feel so inclined :-)

Yes.. there is a constsant common denominator in these hard fishing times....change of light and maybe also bad light (rain, storm clouds sort of thing)
Out yesterday bottom end... yep dawn,  wind up, rain....counted on the wind, tide swell/ chop all being in the same direction in the morning, and changing for return home with top tide around mid day....so good periods between swells, in the right directions.... nps
Brought 10 good sized snapps in the chiller couple KY, all in 4 to 15m
Yeah fishing was slow, and most all off the one side of the boat.....lures got nothing , KY , mullet, carp baits did the job, and a couple on pillies.

What a morning.
After umming & ahhing on whether or not to go for a fish today as work is very busy I just thought life's to short not to fish & work will be there tomorrow, so I was off.
Shot out at first light & was greeted by an awesome Sunrise, just a stunning morning with mirror like seas.

So out to the spot & what do you know not a soul in sight, sweet, didn't even see a boat till 9 30 & then only a couple, it wasn't till around 11 that a few boats turned up & spoilt the party but the bin was full by then so not a biggie.
Couldn't  believe there wasn't more boats everywhere today with the weather so good & it closing in for the next week or so.
A few of the locals came down to check Me out & hung around for most of the morning.

The Snapper where hard on the chew from when i arrived till the turn of the tide (8 30) & for the first hour then it slowed but was still steady up until i left at mid day.
The Northerly started to build around 10ish & made the drifts a bit tricky but still managed to catch Snapper.
Landed some nice fish up to 5kg & got absolutely smoked by a very nice King, no chance in the shallows (4m) & fowl as, was a bit of fun while it lasted, just love the sound of screaming reels.
Fish where sitting hard on the weed line in 4 to 10m, temp up a little to 15deg.
Flavour of the day was the Zman Nuked Pilchard on a 1/2oz Pink Lightbulb.
So another premo feed of fat tasty Snapper, some for the table & some for the Bradleys, high 40s to high 50s & fat.
I believe the Snapper are in the best condition this time of the year & taste blo-ody good.

So pick the weather & go out & gettem folks.

Happy Days..............Wink

Life is short so make the most of every day.

This Snapper was bigger than I evet imagined. It was a Bull or Whale Snapper.Made my other 6 keepers look like undersized babys.I had it on its side up against the boat but i pulled on the line and "ping"it was gone but it lives on in my memories.

Cheers Lads.

The fishing has been nothing short of exceptional this Winter, not huge fish but plenty of them.
Very nice eaters in great condition & hard scrappers, lots of fun on the light silly string.
Have lost some very nice fish to the foul but thats fishing, you win some ya lose some, it just makes you all the keener to get back out there to try & catch the ones that got away.
With all the bait that has been building up over the last month one would think it is about to explode & make for some awesome days to come.
So pick your weather & go out & get em.

Happy Days............Wink

How many of you have tried the Kawakawa Bay ramp? Is it good? How safe is the parking?
Heading out tomorrow, and 50/50 on whether to go Okahu Bay or Kawakawa Bay. Going to fish Ponui and top of waiheke.

Used kawakawa for the first time last month and it was a really nice ramp to use. All tide and the pontoons are awesome to use when loading up the anglers. I guess the parking security is like most ramps, always have a possibility of theft. Prob not a place I would leave my car if doing an overnighter, going off the amount of beer bottles left laying around at the public toilets.

I was told to have a chat to the bait/tackle guy by the ramp as he generally hears where fish are being caught. Also good place to get those last minute supplies.

Thought i'd do a small report. Went out yesterday first time being able to in 3 months. Went straight out to 40-43m NE Waiheke and greeting by lots of dolphins and scattered work ups. Decided just to drop in my spot and came up with fish up to 3 kg. Pirty much done by 9:30-10 but wanted to stay out hoping there was going to be a big work up. Nothing happened so pull the pin around 3. Bite time was hot in the morning but after 10 went slow for us. All on jitterbugs and sbs, some of the time we had to bait them though.

We pretty much had the same results from the same area on Friday although we managed to add a few carrots to our snapper and johnie. We also shot out to the 42-45m mark but it was baron so shot back to Stanmore Bay and got straight back into them. There was a hell of a lot of boats out for a Friday.

Hey Nic,

any relationship between having a new job and the previous that had lots of fishing time?
