Not been out on the water much lately due to spending most of my time in the garden.
Anyhoo got out for a morning fish with a mate on his new boat 'Get Reel'....caught several fish and brought back 4 pannies for a good feed (plenty for the fam).

Returned this specimen to fight another day - pushing 70cm I reckon although didn't measure:-)

Nice looking Snap that bugger, I find they are in the best condition this time of year, lots of fat on their bellies & bright vibrant colours.
Love this time of year for fishing.

Wicked snap mate. 70cm is certainly a great bugger. Would have put up a decent fight

Headed out for a Sunday afternoon sesh, leaving from Orakei. Headed over to Matiatia, drifting with the incoming/NE wind. Picked up 10 nice pannies 35-40cm all on Softbaits. Best colour was Saphire Shine by a long way. Better fishing was just north of the Entrance to Matiatia, out a bit deeper. Fish were agressive in the takes and fighting well about their weight! Good times!

Well after being spoilt rotten by the Wife & little one & other gifts from around the world there was only one thing left to do on My B/D, yep you guessed it ........fishin time.

So off to the shallows.
Wow what a difference a couple of weeks makes......
Bait, bait , bait , bait & more bait, never seen so much bait, KY everywhere but tricky barstools to catch, for Me anyway, landed 1 & dropped a couple more, what a light tackle fish they are, hard fighting till the end.
Would be awesome fun on 1 or 2kg.
Snapper everywhere to but hard to find the better fish, must have been hundreds down there in the 35 to 40cm size but hard to get past them to hook the larger fish.
But in saying that they punched well above there size smashing softies with some screaming runs & big head shakes so was very surprised to see such small fish fighting so hard.
Largest for the day was 46cm & ended up taking 6 home in the bin from 42 to 46cm plus a average size KY for Marcelle/Aquacat to smoke.
But couldn't think of a better way to spend My day off, water teaming with fish even if they where on the smaller side.
Get out there & gettem.
Happy Days.......Wink

Life is short so make the most of every day.

Fishing has been pretty good out of Mangawhai all week with snapper in close and biting well. Decided to venture out wider and chase some bigger specimens. Headed out at a leisurely 8.30am and headed north with my brother in law following in his Frewza. Went straight passed Mcgregors and out a small foul rising out of 50m. Lots of reef fish and leather jackets but plenty of snapper including a nice 8.5lber for the bradley, 5 pannies taken home as well plus Scott released this 18lber.

Sounds like another wicked trip shark bait
wicked fish coastal Stan. That must have been a drag screamer

Friday 25th
Hit the shallows with my lil brother at 7am. Thought I might teach him to softbaits. So we stopped at the usual spot. There was bait stacking the sounder, plenty of good fish sign but there was either nothing or small 30s snapper popping their head. These all went back in search of better models
There was massive kahawai schools attacking bait school and hundreds of terns around so thought we might try to see if there was anything under them. Picked up a couple 40s but generally slow
Thought we would go back to the original spot and the sounder was now looking much more scarce than before
So thought will let my brother take the wheel, cruised a lil, found a small amount of sign and thought yeh let's try this spot. Boom 40s after 40s. We repeated the drift several times and picked them up every drift.
We soon had our limits with the biggest going 52cm
Got off the water at 11am
Primo day out there. Surprised we didn't see many boats out
