That rock is called Mahurangi Island.

Its accessible 2 hrs before low its about thigh deep through the channel although with the tides still being big this weekend it may be a tad lower.
Dont think the tides times are right for you this weekend

Make sure you get off there before you get cut off on the incoming also forcast for Saturday is NE gales so Sunday will be a better bet with lighter NW forcast.

Its pretty foul terrain and very shallow on the Northern side have tried the rocks facing more SE which is also a bit deeper but still very kelpy.
The rocks around the southern end of Waiwera are easier and probably a better bet with the tides.

Best option you have this weekend is to walk south from waiwera with the outgoing on Sat arvo but the forecast isn't your friend

Hey ill have to give it a go next time.. Coz we were at waiwera hot pools and me and few friends got out of the pools and walked over to the mahurangi rock for a look at about 4pm tide was almost out.. And ended up diving for kinas, my mate started shivering so we went back into waiwere hot pools with our full sack and kicked it in the pools till 10pm.. drove back to the cabins and totally pancaked it on the bunks.. But that high was pretty threatining.. It was fair smashing up against the wall.
