Just to let you know that for the Nationals there will be a Safety briefing that will be compulsory for ALL divers doing the Open. This will be on Friday at 5pm at Herb's Shed at Flaxmill Bay - if you don't attend you won't be able to swim the next two days.

If there is a problem for people who are working that day, let me know and I will see if Herb will make it later.

I am working that day so won't make it down until the evening. Herb has promised me a private briefing at his place at 8pm. No doubt others can take advantage of that if they are also working that day.

It's Nationals: it will be rough, dirty, and no fish.

There is no point in having 2 safety briefings, may as well make it 8 pm and no exceptions if you guys want to change the time.  Attendance is required, and it is a part of the event.  If you are not serious enough to attend the safety briefing, you are not really serious about attending the competition.

No question of seriousness, for me and probably some others it's simply a question of what's possible. Pat, I reckon I could make it by 10:00 but even that might be a struggle now Nick has gone and rooted his station wagon. Leave work, drive to tauranga, pick up Nick + boat, etc etc. Don't want to be a pain in the ass for the organisers but would like to do the comp if I can.

Rough, dirty and no fish. It'll be just like home!

Reid, true that, but it seems far more people are driving just for the open this year missing all the fun events? could it be because its held so close to christmas?

And then someone will want a special briefing on Saturday at 6 am, someone will rock up at 7.30,....  this should come as no surprise to anyone who has done the comp before.  Leave work earlier, or don't go.  work is over rated.

A 9pm safety briefing is not unreasonable. There should be no briefings in the morning, the organisers have enough on their hands and mistakes could be made if they have to brief late comers. A skype conference call on the thursday could work for those who can't make it? just putting it out thereErmm

edit: ok sorry for the tone of this post

yeah, but a 9pm safety briefing will finish at 11? then you gotta be home, sleep. Up early. I like to get my beauty sleep before the big day. Wink

Well, not demanding or expecting anything, just answering Pat's question. If the organisers are ok with running a late safety briefing or a skype session the day before then fantastic, I'm in. If they don't, no big deal and I can always get beaten by the pointy stick brigade at the next comp. Ok Reid?

Safety briefing should take 40 mins to an hour. I will put it to Herb about a later briefing or contact him on 0274 570 945

I agree with the need to be present for the safety briefing. It would be a shame however if you were penalised or disqualified for working that week. Not everyone has flexible jobs or can afford unpaid time off. Herb's offer of holding a special briefing at 8pm works well for me and I will make sure I get down on time to make it.
