Hi All,
I was after some advice on boats. This thread seems to tie in nicely with Finatic's Small boat thread. I was wanting to know if it would be possible to get a good blue water boat for under $30,000.00? If so what type, size etc. I specifically want a trailer boat I can take out wide chasin beakies. And can tow to where the fish are. 30k is the budget, can it be done? I don't need to buy any rods, reels lures etc. That side of things is already covered. Help and thoughts appreciated

Hey, we've got marlin from a 4.9 M Marco, off Raglan, that's easy worth 12K max. Plonker's Ginga is another example.
Be yourself; everyone else is already taken

What's the cheapest type of meat? Dear balls. They're under a buck.

Bit of a challenge if U want new.
If it was me I'd be looking at Stabby craft, Ramco or Mclay. Sorry don't know enough about the fibreglass selection and I'd want a 4 stroke. From what I know about the latest 2 strokes is they are great while they are running but seam to have a lot of "electrical" components that can cause problems as they age.

Happy hunting 1/2 the fun is looking.

BA I have access to a launch,as you know, but could'nt afford berthage, maintenance etc to run my own. Trailer boat better for me at this stage of my life and being able to tow it to where the fish are has it's attractions. Unfortunately the sacrifice is the comfort factor on a trailer boat whilst out there doing it

Hell yes!  I would say a good portion of NZ's marlin are caught out of 30k boats.  Your balance will be finding a happy compromise between wants and budget.  pretty is also more expensive but there are some great older hulls out there.  Four strokes are starting to appear on TM as well as people repower.  Look carefully at the trailer as more gamefisho's spend a decent amount of time on the road.
   Good luck.

Haines hunter, Morgon Bill fisher would be the better blue water trailer boats by far, what you have to think about Tom is towing capacity of the truck. what about rayglass its not what you know but who can do some asking if you want.

Phantom - IMO 172 Billfisher is not the answer. But if you cld find an older Billfisher 550 - magic..! No probs to tow either! Almost identical to bigger 720 or 635 Billfishers with targa top and full walkaround, self draining cockpit etc. Also as BA says, Rayglass. Older 670's gr8 boats. Blue water hull and fishing orientated and some were made as centre consoles - awesome Smile

PD haven't too many complaints about the smaller Mclays like my 550.  Brilliant to tow (as speeding ticket 98kmh from robo ***** in KK proved on the weekend she reckoned the 255kw HSV up my arse was trying to get past me for too long... yeah whatever!).

Easy to handle on your own or with young kids.  Only complaint is that the waterline length and weight make the ride a little more uncomfortable than a bigger boat.  Motor is just over 400hrs.  80% gamefishing so that tells you that I find it pretty comfortable in the right conditions.  If I did it again I would go for a 4stroke 115 on the hull, and if I was keeping it I probably would after another season or two.

I have just bought a 635 billfisher but will end up costing me another 40k over the Mcaly by the time I get her up to scratch.

As I told a bloke on trademe the other day who knows what I would be prepared to accept if I still have it at xmas so let me know if you can still see it then.

Boats have been starting to move out over the past few weeks so expect some progress pretty soon tho.

Salty she is on the yard at KK suzuki dealer from the weekend...  a few more eyes to run over her up there.
