Hi guys,

Just wondering how many of you are using sinking braid?

Have seen it advertised a bit and wanting a bit of a review - worth it for softbaiting and slow jigging?
Am also looking to do some micro jigging.

Does it add to the action or does it take away?

Cheers

I've fished it for a while now,for micro jigging it's excellent ,for any metal jig it's excellent ,I would suggest 20 pd to start with .
I've found this to be the ideal weight.
For s/b fishing I would use a specialist braid 1 st,I'm fishing the "spider wire fluro braid "on a specialist micro jigging rod and it's ok for s/ b fishing but not my 1 st choice( mostly the rods not suited)

Thanks mate, is the 20lb due to more weight in the braid? Or is there another reason?
Are you using specialist micro jigging and slow jigging gear?

With the SB, you think the jig heads are enough weight? Or any reason why not so suited?
Is the spider wire fluro braid the weighted version? Also are you using the weighted line in overhead or spin? Presume their is a variant for both.

Cheers - sorry for all the questions, looking to get my head round it all before I respool for the season.

The spider wire sinking braid is designed to get small jigs down faster to the bottom and then give you ample time to jig a fish.
You then impart the action into the jig with lifting and dropping or what ever you choose.
I'm Using a specialist veritas micro jigging rod of 1.5 PE in spin version.
The 20 pd has just proven to be a weight that works well,20 pd leader as well and no issues getting jigs as light as 21 grams down deep.
Using this braid for s/b fishing will be fine in deep water but it's taking awayor limiting any action the s/b might have on the drop.
This the major diffrence, ones slowing the drop or limiting the speed ( s/b braid) and the other is getting it down as quickly as possible.
S/b fishing in 0 to 20 mtrs I my opinion is still the place for more specialist equipment.
I've got about 80 mtrs left on a spool if you want it to try out ,you can send me a courier bag to post or pick up from whangaparoa

You should be out there now Smile
I do not have personal experience with the sinking braid, yet.
In my opinion in the areas and depths you are fishing you would benefit from the light(er)weight approach to allow max. action for both metal and sb, a leader of 15lb (whether mono or fluro, your choice) and braid of 10 - 12lb maximum. However as Of2fsh has said upto 20lb for both braid and leader will work fine, a personal choice and the better your reel, the lighter you can go, and catch more fish. Fully spool your reel with braid.

Thanks for the offer of2fsh will leave it for now, in your opinion is it helpful in the shallower depths? Have used a fair amount of 20g in the past but would like to go down a bit smaller where the current allows.

Its helpfull where you need a micro jig to get down to the strike area before youve drifted past your lure.
So in shallow it would help if your casting a 14 to 21 gram lure and you have 1/2 knot of drift.
10 pd would be ok in this scenario but its untested in my experience, i got spanked on 20 pd in the shallows recently.
The offer of the braid is still here if you want it later, i dont want anything for it.
Or if anyone else wants to try it pm me
