Looked at the following options

Up to 2004
Kia Sorento 3.5l petrol
Hyundai 2.7l petrol

I'm just looking at a tow vehicle for my 17ft Sea Nymph. Anyone own one out there and if so what are they like?

u do not need a 3L car for towing ur boat.
try look into major brands like Toyota or Honda or nissans.
Kia or Hyundai. low resale value. short in parts.
RAV4 2.4L or Honda CRV or Nissan mutant are much better choices.

the key is try to buy a car that u see alot on the road.
rare is not a good thing in technology things

we had a Santa Fe to tow a heavier boat than your Sea Nymph,, never had a problem with it. plenty of power and the tiptronic was handy on the hills

it was too flash so we traded down to a ute

Neither the Rav 4 or CRV or Nissan Murano have any where near the tow rating which is why I'm looking athe the Hyundai and Kia which is important to me.

The Kia is a good car,I was well impressed with the comfort, the extras like heated seats and the power of the motors pretty good.
Didn't tow with it ,was a rental ,did nearly 2500 k in it trouble free

I recently looked at a Suzuki escudo with a 2.7 petrol. seemed a grunty motor. for some reason inline motors always seem to have more grunt for the same size. anyway I went with a Subaru Outback as it will handle anything I need to tow. fuel usage figures for the escudo were pretty good. and they have fourwheeldrive drive low range lock.

inline motors are usually longer stroke than a V motor of the same capacity and therefore have more torque

Thanks Strx 7 - long stroke more torque - makes sense - my inline 6 cylinder Merc 115 had s**t loads of grunt but it was thirsty. I had to replace prop rubber bushings after 4 or 5 years as it ripped them out.
Good fishing trip nothing breaks, great trip catch fish.

Kia ora, I have a 2008 Generation2 Kia Sorento 2.5Lt diesel and have had it for 3 years, I use it to tow my 530 Stabicraft around the place. It has more than enough torque to tow my boat, fuel consumption on long trips towing the boat (normally Ak to Tauranga or Ak to Kai Iwi lake Northland) has returned an average of 12.5 Lt per 100km and that is travelling at 90-100kph on the speedo never faster and seldom any slower. Hope this is of use to you Cheers
